Congratulations to Northumbria Police’s PC Peter Baker for scooping top honours at the recent prestigious Ceva Animal Welfare Awards.

PC Baker won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Animal Welfare Award’ for juggling his frontline policing role with preventing, tackling, and pursuing offenders who cause pain to animals.

The Your Dog and Your Cat sponsored award, which recognises the achievements of remarkable people who go beyond the call of duty to better the lives of animals around the world, was presented by veteran BBC broadcaster Nik Wood during a virtual ceremony.

Sunderland-based PC Baker’s work has resulted in high profile convictions, while he’s also teamed up with animal welfare organisations to deliver an education programme that teaches primary school children about positive animal welfare.
