Combermere Abbey, the historic 1000-acre estate on the Cheshire/Shropshire border, has announced that four-legged friends can accompany their owners free of charge during the bank holiday weekend – during which National Dog Day is celebrated on the 26th August.

National Dog Day is celebrated on 26th August annually for all dogs - mixed breed and pure. From raising awareness for the number of dogs in need of adoption and to the work done by service animals, to simply the joy and purpose dogs bring into human lives, the day aims to promote the value our canines bring whilst encouraging more people to open their hearts to a dog in need.

Combermere Abbey is famously dog-friendly, with all cottages accommodating hounds of all shapes and sizes, special areas of land where dogs can roam without leads and specially designed ‘pooch packs’ for all furry guests. To encourage more dog-owners to bring their pets on holiday with them, Combermere Abbey is honouring National Dog Day by waiving the usual daily charge for additional four-legged guests staying in the luxury self-catering cottages.

Sarah Callander Beckett, owner of Combermere Abbey, comments: “We adore seeing our guests’ dogs on holiday with them at the Combermere cottages, and have designed our accommodation and land to be as hospitable as possible to all creatures. As an owner myself with two black Labradors, I know that a weekend break in the countryside with miles of woodlands, parklands and lakes to explore before retiring to a luxury cottage can be just as restorative for dogs as it is for people! National Dog Day is the perfect holiday to encourage owners to enjoy a long weekend away over the bank holiday, without having to worry about organising dog-sitters or kennels.”
