Issue Summary

As we head into the darkest days of winter, it’s a good idea to focus on the positives and raise the spirits. No, it’s not all gloomy mornings and torrential downpours, a wet, filthy dog, and a load of muddy boots and equally muddy dog coats.

Trainer and behaviourist Jackie Drakeford explains how winter dog walks can be fun for you and your dog (page 10), and has some ideas on how you can spice them up and make them more of a brain workout for your pet.
Of course, keeping your dog looking ‘respectable’ is always
a challenge at this time of year, and now probably more than ever because of the additional pressures of rising costs. But Andrea McHugh has some great ideas on how you can keep your dog looking neat and trim, make life easier for yourself, and save some money too; check out page 44.
If you’re thinking that the UK in January is pretty hard going, spare a thought for photographer and filmmaker Danie Ferreira, whose book about his polar expeditions contains
a tribute to the amazing sled dogs who have supported him on his adventures. He describes the strength, stamina, endurance, and work ethic of these Greenland Dogs as mind-blowing. Turn to page 32 to discover more about these extraordinary dogs and to see Danie’s spectacular photos.
Finally, this is the time when we announce the winners of the Your Dog Product Awards 2023. Turn to page 24 and discover which of your favourite, much-loved dog products took the honours.
We wish all our readers and their dogs a very happy new year, and don’t forget to make your new year resolutions; in fact why not drop us a line and let us know how well you’re doing sticking to them? I’m not sure my ‘no chocolate’ resolution will last very long!
