While it isn't a legal requirement of dog ownership to let them live indoors, looking out of the window on a cold winter's day makes us know where we'd rather be!

Having good shelter from the elements is a must for your dog - and there are laws which govern aspects of how you care for your pet.

The Animal Welfare Act says you must take all reasonable steps to meet your dog's basic needs, including:

  • A suitable environment.
  • A suitable diet.
  • To be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns.
  • To be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease.

Responsible owners will meet all these needs and more during their dogs' lives - and Spring's new owners will be helping her to get used to an indoor environment, with warm snoozes by the fire.
