The Manchester Terrier is a breed that has maintained consistency in its conformation to type for nearly two centuries, and is recognised as the oldest terrier type.

They were popular as a ratting dog during the industrial revolution, finding much work amongst the newly built mills and factories as well as gaining a reputation as a fearsome fighter before the practice was outlawed.

Manchester Terrier character

A keen, lively breed with a stubborn streak in common with all terriers. They are especially good with children they've been raised with. A highly trainable breed, they can excel in organised activities as they do well when given a defined aim to focus on.

Manchester Terrier size

The Breed Standard states that the ideal height for a Manchester Terrier is 41cm for dogs and 38cm for bitches.

Manchester Terrier health

A generally healthy breed, although as they are energetic you should take care whilst exercising them to avoid causing muscular and joint issues.
