Giant Schnauzer Breed Profile

96a63411-b70d-49ae-b9d6-64f5eed74cd9
The largest of the three Schnauzers, powerful yet discriminate guard, ever alert and always playful. Does not moult and has little doggy odour. Generally healthy, but care should be taken with Hip Hysplasia. The right quality and level of food is essential.

Giant Schnauzer Character

A unique combination of stern and serious, but fun and formidable. Can be very laid back in the house providing they are exercised well and given time off the lead in a safe area. Good guards and watchdogs - their bark will deter most strangers instantly! Reasonably obedient and once trust is established, can be easy to train, but they are known for a slight stubborn streak. Ok with children, although a dog of this size (or any dog) should never be left alone with a child.

Giant Schnauzer Size

More large than giant, the breed standard stipulates dogs 65-70cms and bitches 60-65cms

Giant Schnauzer Health

Generally healthy, although as with most large dogs, Hip Dysplasia is evident so always buy with care and research. Lifespan is 11-12 years.

Giant Schnauzer Special Care

The grooming as mentioned, also the food. Be careful of over/under feeding especially as a puppy and feed the best quality food you can afford. Be careful not to over-exercise in the first year and make sure he is well socialized as a puppy.

Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
