German Wirehaired Pointer Breed Profile

1890f433-5fb7-4b72-b45f-0af9b854db24
The German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP), known as the Deutch Drahthaar in its homeland, is a versatile gundog breed. Being a hunt, point and retrieve breed it is highly intelligent. In its homeland the GWP was used as a guard dog but modern breeding in the UK has resulted in a very biddable, kind natured dog, which enjoys being part of the family, is good with children and other pets.

German Wirehaired Pointer Character

The GWP has a character all of its own. It likes to be active and doing a job but has a cheeky, impish character all of its own. Like any hunt, point and retrieve breed, GWPs are slow to mature and need careful, consistent handling as puppies

German Wirehaired Pointer Size

GWPs measure between 56-67cm at the shoulder.

German Wirehaired Pointer Health
