The German Longhaired Pointer (GLP) is regarded as one of the best hunt, point and retrieve breeds. They are naturally loyal and want to please. Early breed characteristics are not recorded - apart from the qualities as a working dog. By the mid 1900s their long haired coat had developed, due to bloodlines bred from Spanish fowling dogs alongside English Setters.
