A guard dog through and through, although one that is easy-going and likes nothing more than a laid-back lifestyle!

Tibetan Mastiff Character

Protective, aloof, independent, but friendly to their family and pretty easy-going. Enjoys being part of the family and provided consistent training is given, will be an excellent family member. Their bark is something to be heard!

Tibetan Mastiff Size

Extra large. The Breed Standard stipulates "A minimum height of 66cm in dogs and 61cm in bitches is desirable, but on no account should type be sacrificed to size alone."

Tibetan Mastiff Health

As with most large breeds, Hip Dysplasia is evident, although this is a generally a healthy, hardy dog. Lifespan is about 12 years.

Tibetan Mastiff Special Care

This is a powerful dog, bred for guarding. Socialization, consistent training and positive training is a must. Do not think that just because they like snoozing all day (providing they are walked) that this is an easy breed to look after. Their size alone is a great responsibility to take on.

Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
