Still used as a working sheepdog in its native Italy, the Maremma is a proud breed and will not be submissive, rather preferring to work in tandem with their master.

Maremma Sheepdog Character

The Maremma has been bred to be gentle yet protective and they have a strong sense of self-reliance, responding best to positive engagement. Maremmas will be affectionate and loyal although socialization will be required to fully develop an outgoing personality

Maremma Sheepdog Size

The Breed Profile states an ideal height 65-73cm for dogs, 60-68cm for bitches. Their recommended weight should be between 35-45kg, 30-40kg for bitches.

Maremma Sheepdog Health

Maremmas are a healthy breed, partly due to their working heritage, although like all large breeds they are prone to Hip Dysplasia.
