With outstanding scenery; a mass of different wildlife habitats and a rich cultural heritage; The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a fantastic place for recreation and relaxation.

The Dales enjoys vast stretches of unspoilt, rolling countryside. The view is peppered with dry-stone walls and each of the 20 Dales has an individual charm and personality.

The southern Dales are more populated, while the northern Dales retained a rugged, rural charm. Agriculture continues to be an important industry so, if you’re out enjoying walks across the region, be prepared to keep your dog on a short lead at times. Each of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Visitor centres welcomes dogs.

Yorkshire Dales facts:
  • The park was established in 1954 and covers an area of 1,792 square kilometres (680 square miles).
  • It straddles the central Pennines in the counties of North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
