Overview

Appearances can be deceptive. It’s only when you step inside and pass through centuries of history and enter the brilliant creation of Victorian innovator William Armstrong that you’ll discover a castle like no other.

With its origins in the Anglo-Saxon period, Bamburgh has dominated its volcanic outcrop and the surrounding countryside for centuries.

Open all year round it welcomes visitors to enjoy the grounds and staterooms. From the medieval kitchen to grandeur of the Victorian Kings Hall there are fourteen rooms to explore.

Housed within are over 3000 artefacts ranging from porcelain plates and figurines to arms and armour. With a beautiful collection of clocks, furniture and paintings helping to maintain a homely feeling about the place.

The old Victorian laundry houses the Armstrong and Aviation Museum, a fascinating collection of aviation artefacts including engines, propellers and even the wreckage of a crashed Spitfire.

Dogs are welcome inside the Castle Grounds, Armstrong & Aviation Museum, Victorian Stables and Tack Room Café.
