i'm really not sure unfortunately. my dog does this when she see's a bottle, she just makes a beeline and no matter how much i ask her to come back and leave it, she just ignores me. No treat will tempt her, she's not very treat orientated on a walk so i tend not to bother taking them. so any ideas would be great

jack russels can sometimes have a high chase drive and if they ever spot anything moving will often run after it and nothing will make them come back x x

How old is your Jack Russel Delboy?

I would take a step back and just go-over the recall training again with him.

I used to use a 10ft training line when teaching my pair - at least you would still have a hold of them if they took a silly notion.

The other thing that has worked fantastic on my Dalmatian is a clicker. I would call her and when she came, click and treat. I did this around the garden at first. She soon caught on to getting a tasty treat if she came back.

Now after a couple of months I've dropped the clicker completely. I can now shout her and she comes straight back for a treat - we have also introduced a shepherds whistle that they respond to as well!

Good Luck

Become less predictable?

When I was training Oscar sometimes I used to hide from him, or if he was distracted, I'd turn and run in the opposite direction. It teaches them to watch you all of the time. I sometimes still try these methods but they never work anymore because no matter what hes interested in, hes always aware of where I am.

When I was training recall I would only allow Oscar so far away from me before I would call or whistle. And I did this constantly, so much so that he will only go so far before turning and coming back without me needing to call or whistle now, its ingrained (very useful for beating on shoots).

EVERY time he comes back to within about 6 ft of me I verbally praise him, convincing him that to be near me is a good place to be. Don't become too laid back, even if you have taught good recall, it constantly needs to be reinforced.

ps A whistle is very useful if your dog goes some distance away from you and bearing in mind dogs get de-sensitized to our voices, a whistle is usually more effective outside.

Good luck
