Can you help me figure out these symptoms 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Hi All
Is there anyone who could advise what these symptoms may be, Recently marmite has starting nipping round his bum, not breaking the skin but theres obviously something thats bugging him, He has also been sick the last few days, Weather its related i dont know, He seems ok and is eating plenty but a little worried, can anyone help at all, I will take him to the vet if this persists but if anyone can give me an idea at all.

Thanks allot

If he seems hungry all the time, he may have worms, as the worms get the food before he does, and he won't appear underweight either, he'll probably appear fatter . . .

Sounds like you have got a case of worms! A trip to the vets and some anti-worming tablets, he will be OK

Sounds like a case of worms to me as well.
Signs include: Hunger, bottom scooting or nipping, dull coat, vomiting and/or diarrhoea, and lethargy to name a few. Also check his poop as there may be worms in it. Depending on the type of worm they will either look like grains of rice or spaghetti!

If you're sure it's not worms, his anal sacs (located nr his anal passage) may be infected. Sometimes they can become blocked and it becomes very painful. Again, nipping the area and bottom scooting is a sign of it. You will need to visit the vet to confirm this.

Hi, Glenn

They will take a parasite swab, literally a cotton bud up his bum, they may also do a blood test, take his weight and temp. The vet may ask you for a feaces sample, so you may have to make regular trips back and forth to the vet.
Hope you are ready!

It could be worms - but the vomiting may be unrelated.

Scooting his bum across the floor is more commonly found when the anal glands need emptied. It also causes irritation around the dogs bum.

The vet will be able to check the anal glands by inserting a finger into the dogs bottom and squeezing the glands.

Do you regularly worm your dog?

I would advise you get your dogs anal glands checked asap as they can rupture through the skin if left for too long.

Hi
Yeah we wormed him up to 6 months old and he is only 9 months now, I have been trying to check his poo as he like all dogs never has the same poo twice, always looks so different and many of them you could say he had the runs. i will get him to the vet tonight and im sure they will be able to see straight away what it is but either way he needs to go to the vet.

Thanks

If you have wormed him then I doubt it would be that, but he should be due a tablet now - again check with your vet but I worm my pair every 3 months.

I was told to look for grains of rice type things in the poo - but not always easy.

Let us know what happens!

Sounds like worms or anal glands to me too.
Mine have stronghold - which you can get from your vet. Its a wormer and flea combo which goes on the back of the neck every month. It is also important that you flea treat your dog - especially in summer, as fleas can act as hosts for tapeworms.
Also, you'll have to be extra vigilant as i believe some types of worm can also be passed onto humans?
Other wise, it could be anal glands need emptying - your vet will do this - but hold your nose!
Good luck at the vets - let us know he is ok.
