teething keys from pets at home 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Hi has anyone bought the teething keys out of pets at home? I gave them to Pepper and within 5 mins she had bite a big chunk of them so i've taken them of her. They cost £6.99 so I think this isn't very good value. Do you think I should take thm back?

I'd definately take them back. If Pepper had swallowed a piece it could of been serious. If Peppers teething maybe a rawhide chew might be suitable. I used them with Sheba & she still loves them now.

wow that's strange O.O

i bought the teething pacifier which is similar and it has lasted since i bought it (when we got woody!)

definitely take it back though if it was destroyed in 5 minutes.

monty LOVED the nylabone EDIBLE bones when he was a puppy. but they don't last long.

rawhide chews are okay, but my nanny's adult dog has choked on the big rawhide chews several times and i've had to stick my hand down her throat and grab it out, so maybe get small, bite sized rawhide chews!

however monty's all time favourite thing to gnaw on is probably ice. XD

I'd take them back too.

My dad has a pet food business (so I get everything at cost ) and my dogs like to chew. I give them Nylabones, but my dad's also suggested I have some filled cooked bones. He says they're cooked so they don't splinter. I'm gonna give them a go.
Was gonna buy teething keys, but my dogs are 9 and 10 months, so past the teething stage. Can you give them just to chew?

I wish I had a relative with a pet food business, it would save me a fortune!!

With regards to bones, I'm not saying don't feed them because they have obvious health benefits. A lot of people who feed the raw diet to their dogs do and have no problems, however I would say always supervise your dogs whilst eating, just in case.

NEVER feed cooked bones because they are MORE likely to splinter. During my years as a vet nurse, I've seen some nasty cases where dogs have had perforated bowels due to eating bones (usually cooked chicken bones). In some cases the dog has died so please be careful.

Gypsy is right, the cooked bones are more likely to splinter so don't feed them! but i think what mousey_kumar meant are the smoked and filled ones. maybe? i'm pretty sure they are safe. those and roasted ones. we give the boys roasted knuckle bones and they love them!

mousey_kumar did you mean ones like this?

Sorry, I meant sterilised bones!!!
I've just showed my mum the picture, and she said they're the ones my dad sells.

The thought of giving bones to my dogs frightens me, but I've been assured that the ones pictured are safe, and safe enough to leave the dogs alone with (Colin chews when I leave them alone in the house, despite having lots of chew toys, so would be ideal to leave him with something tasty!).

ooh another thing that's good, but doesn't last as long is giving dogs a carrot. our tow LOVE them and take them into the garden (where they always take their 'special' treats that deserve slightly more attention than ordinary ones lol) for our two the carrotes last about half an hour because they spend a lot of time licking them but fr major chewers they'd probably be gone in far less time. they are good though!

Haha Tilz HATES carrots. When we give her the sunday roast leftovers, she takes them out and lines them up by the side of her bowl
She likes the roast knuckle bones and the ham ones.
