If you have an entire dog around an in season bitch then it is entirely normal for the male to lose weight from the stress of not being able to mate.

You do not say how old your male is but most entire males under 3 tend to be quite rangy especially between 10 - 18 months.
If you add to this the hot weather it is not surprising the dog has lost weight.

How much has he lost?

What is his normal weight?
What does he weigh now?
Weight loss occurs gradually and so does gain.

Remember in the heat the less weight a dog is carrying the better, if the dog has not eaten because of stress his appetite should come back once the season is over.

And then it is just a metter of a couple of weeks. You can tell how the dog is doing if you weigh him.

If you wish to speed up the process then the best way is to feed small meals more frequently and add calorifically dense items such as beef suet.

Hi Lou,
If you google 'Satin Balls recipe' it gives you a great recipe that had my dog in tip top condition after she had lost weight. Vet recommended too. Your dog will love you for it. It does contain raw meat (thought I'd warn you of this as some people don't like handling it). Just make sure you don't overfeed your dog though as he will gain weight a little too fast.
Hope this helps.
