Greyhounds

  • The RGT was first established in 1975 and has homed some 60,000 dogs since then.
  • We have 70 branches across the length and breadth of the UK, from the Isle of Skye to Jersey.
  • A greyhound´s racing life is a short one - most are retired by the time they are just 3 or 4 years old.
  • Visit our website for more details.

We are a group set up to rehome retired racing greyhounds. The group is a branch of the national Retired Greyhound Trust charity, which has branches throughout the country and is run entirely by volunteers. Contrary to popular belief, they don´t need vast amounts of exercise: perfectly happy with a couple of 20 minute walks a day - though these gentle and affectionate animals will happily trot alongside you for as long as you ask. Generally, they settle quickly into a home and soon learn to become pets.

All branches need volunteers for walks and to assist with fundraising - can you help? If you or someone you know is interested in adopting a new pet, browse our site to find out about greyhounds as pets.

Greyhounds are very adaptable and our rehoming policies are very flexible. If you work, have children, cats or are unable to go for long walks, it is still worth calling us. We may have the perfect greyhound for you in our kennels. The policy of the Trust is that dogs are normally neutered, vaccinated and wormed and we do ask for a donation towards the cost of this treatment. All new homes are subject to a home check.
