Fact File

An in-depth feature on this breed is currently not available.

Size: The Small Munsterlander should measure 51-58cm and weigh in at between 18-27kg.
Looks: A dignified head and a strong neck, the coat should be smooth and fine across their head becoming longer and feathered over the body. The coat of the Small Munsterlander may be wavy. Their body should present a square profile, a long back and powerful, well built legs. Small Munsterlander's are generally white with spotted brown and white markings.

Intro: A close companion and hunt-point-retrieve breed blessed with an excellent nose, equally happy tracking game across land and water. The Munsterlander is both elegant and practical, in fact top show Munsterlanders are regularly working dogs indicating what a wonderfully versatile breed they are.

Health: There are few reported common ailments of concern with the breed, just be sure to take care whilst exercising a young puppy as they can develop Hip Dysplasia.

Character: Incredibly loyal and affectionate, a Munsterlander will love to work, play and rest close to you. They are great with children although do be aware that they can be quite boisterous and excited. Keeping a Munsterlander quiet will require dedicated training, although they are keen to please and should learn quite easily.

Grooming: A fairly easy breed to maintain, they shouldn't need much more than a good brushing once or twice a week and maybe a quick trim of the hair around their ears and feet to keep them clear.

Special care: A Munsterlander doesn't enjoy being left on their own for any great length of time, ideally they should be engaged with some member of their family for the vast majority of the day.

Exercise: As an energetic working breed, Munsterlanders need plenty of exercise to keep them happy and healthy. Certainly a breed who would benefit from involvement in some sort of agility trials but if you can put them to work in the field then you should really see the best of them.

From the owner: They absolutely love water, don''t be surprised if they dive straight into the nearest lake or even puddle when you''re out and about! The Munsterlander is quite obedient which is obviously useful with such an energetic and lively breed. Al R, Nottingham
