Any dogs found without ID tags displaying their owner's name and address (including postcode), can be fined up to £5,000. By law you do not have to include a contact phone number but it is strongly advised. It is generally agreed that including the dog's name is not recommended. Micro-chipping your pet is also suggested, however, this is not a substitute for a proper ID tag. There are some exceptions to the ID tag law, for example; dogs used by customs or armed forces, sporting dogs or pest control, herding cattle, guide dogs and dogs used for emergency rescue work. Don't forget you can take a look at our Puppy Finder section to find breeds in your area.
