On 16th September don’t be surprised if you see a Terrier on the train, a Collie in the coffee queue or a Labrador at lunch as thousands of dogs across the country will be joining their owners at work for this year’s Take Your Dog To Work Day. Take Your Dog To Work Day is a fundraising initiative run by Britain’s pet charity, The Blue Cross. Now in its 14th year, Take Your Dog To Work Day has continued to gather momentum as dog lovers are keen to extol the physical and mental health benefits of their canine friends to their work colleagues. To convert this companionship into crucial cash, The Blue Cross is encouraging participants to fundraise by charging colleagues ‘A Pound A Pat’. This scheme means that work mates can benefit from a therapeutic ‘pat’ of the dog in exchange for a donation to The Blue Cross. The money will go towards the charity’s vital work caring for thousands of sick and homeless animals at Blue Cross hospitals and adoption centres across the UK. Ziela Haider of The Blue Cross commented: “Take Your Dog To Work Day is an important initiative for The Blue Cross as it not only raises essential funds for the work we do, but encourages owners to spend more time with their dog, enabling them to create new and positive experiences with their pet. While The Blue Cross is an animal charity, it is also a ‘people’ charity that understands the bond that people share with their pets.” In previous years thousands of dogs have bounded along to a range of work places, including offices, hair salons, TV studios, law firms, care homes, building sites, schools and even science labs. Registration for this year’s Take Your Dog To Work Day is now open.
