Lorry driver sets up dog website

In 2007, long distance lorry driver Diarmiud Scullin kept noticing dog owners out with their pets and wondered if there was a way of bringing them together.

Away from his home much of the time, having a pet is not, at the moment, a possibility for the 49 year old from Cookstown, in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, but he had an idea to set up a dog owners website.

“I had the inspiration of setting up a social networking site for dog owners and provide a way for owners to get in contact with one another, so I put together www.k9friendsunited.com. As a computer novice, I had to learn how to put it together entirely by myself.”

The site features individual member pages, blogs, picture galleries and video galleries. Registered users come from as far afield as Australia, Italy and New Zealand.

“I’ve had lots of dogs in the past,” said Diarmiud, ”including Lakeland terriers, Labradors and Border Collies. One day I’ll have a canine friend again!”
