Walkies with The Retired Greyhound Trust

Print

Greyhound TrustDog lovers and walkers will put their best foot forward to raise awareness of greyhounds and have some fun at walks up and down the UK on June 20. The Great British Greyhound Walk is designed to raise awareness of the joys of owning a greyhound and encourage more people to adopt a homeless greyhound.

Organiser Janet Peacock said: “The walks are designed to be great fun for all the family, whether you own a greyhound, are considering a dog as a pet or just fancy a good walk. They are a great opportunity for people who are thinking about getting a dog to come along and meet a greyhound. They will have the chance to ask questions of greyhound owners, walk the dogs and find out more about the joys of adopting a retired greyhound. Anyone is welcome.”

Ivor Stocker, from the Retired Greyhound Trust, said: “We welcome any opportunity to tell people about how greyhounds make fabulous pets and profile some of the dogs who are currently waiting for loving homes. Greyhounds make fantastic pets. They are extremely placid animals and therefore many are particularly good with children. They also make excellent companions for the elderly because they are loving animals who do not require large amounts of exercise.”

The Great Greyhound Walk was born out of local walks held by Janet in Essex in 2006, which expanded to Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire.
