Concerns over rent-out pets |
|
![]() Labour MP David Drew has spoken out against a pet rental company called FlexPetz who rent out designer pets. Pet renting is a trend that has spread across from the US and allows individuals to simply ‘rent’ a pet by paying by the hour. Concerns were raised by parliament recently regarding the expanding pet rental business in the UK as plans are in place to introduce the business to Scotland. “The UK dog rental business is currently very small but recognises the potential for its growth due to the increase in fashion accessory dogs,” said MP David Drew. “This encourages irresponsible attitudes to dog ownership… dog renting is, or should be a breach of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.” In addition to the government, the opposition and the Liberal Democrat MP Robert Brown, the Kennel Club has also pledged their support for a reform of the pet renting schemes. |
