Cheeky sausage thieves

E-mail

SausageOne September afternoon I had gone shopping with Jack and Sally in the car. I had finished getting my weekly shop and was heading home when I remembered that I needed to pop into the post office.

I stopped in my local town and left Jack and Sally in the car whilst I went into the post office. I have always been wary of leaving dogs in the car without proper ventilation and so always leave at least one window open.

This time in my haste, I think I may have left one window open too wide. When I returned from the post office I found my car minus two little Jack Russells, who – before leaving - had unwrapped a bar of chocolate from the shopping bags and managed to eat most of it, leaving what they hadn't eaten smeared across the back seat.

I let out a sigh and set about tracking down my two escapees. My local town is quite small and after about 20 minutes of calling for them and looking everywhere, I noticed a lot of laughing coming from a rather crowded butchers. My heart sank.

"Here we go" - I thought.  When I got to the butchers I was greeted with the sight of Jack and Sally running around the feet of the half dozen people in the butchers with a sausage in each of their mouths! "Oh no!”

Profusely apologising to the owner I explained their escape and offered to pay for the stolen sausages. Still laughing he reassured me that I had nothing to worry about because my two "little terrors" had cheered up his day and that they were welcome to their sausages.

Greatly embarrassed I scooped up my two "little terrors", one under each arm and headed home. They were both still carrying their sausages and looking very proud of themselves. I, on the other hand, was not so proud.
