Not as glamorous as his rough collie cousin, but the Smooth Collie does possess the typical collie intelligence. The Smooth Collie is very rare outside Britain. This breed makes an excellent companion and family dog.
The Smooth Collie is an active, friendly and intelligent dog. They make excellent housedogs and bond closely with their family. They tend to be wary of strangers but accept them happily if they are welcomed to the family. Due to their gentle nature they make excellent companions for children and are always happy to play.
The Breed Standard stipulates that an ideal size varies between 51-61cm.
A generally healthy breed but dental hygiene should be monitored closely. Collies tend to suffer from Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) but breeders are working to eradicate this and screen puppies and breeding stock.
Take care in the sun that their noses are protected from burning.
Remember! All breed profiles are general and every dog is an individual.
